General Instructions / Safety Measures

·   Never disconnect/connect wiring harness plugs from/to the engine control unit or other control units with the ignition switched on.

·   Disconnect battery from vehicle electrical supply before charging or quick- charging.

·   Never disconnect the battery from the vehicle electrical supply with the engine running.

·   Never use the quick charger for starting.

·   Caution when touching voltage- bearing parts of the ignition system.

·   For welding work, remove control units.

·   Control units must be removed at temperatures above 80 °C/176 °F (e.g. drying ovens).

·   Use only high- resistance voltage testers for checking.

·   Test steps in which the connection contacts of wiring harness plugs or control units are connected to ground or battery voltage (+12 V) must be performed with the utmost care and concentration. Incorrectly selected contacts can lead to destruction of internal circuits in the control units in question.

·   After reconnecting the battery, reprogram volatile memories. With radio coding and station programming, inform the customer about the decoding and the deleted station memories.

·   If the engine or the automatic transmission have been removed, ensure that all ground connections are correct after installation. If the engine is started when ground connections are loose or incorrect, damage/destruction of the control unit can result.
