·   Ignition OFF

Disconnect plugs from throttle valve

potentiometer P 34, intake manifold pressure sensor P 23, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 and exhaust gas recirculation module V 15.

·   Ignition ON

·   Measure voltage:

from:   wiring harness plug P 34 Ter. C

to:        ground

 

less than 0.1 V

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

from:   throttle valve potentiometer P 34 Ter. A (+ 5 volts)

to:        throttle valve potentiometer P 34 Ter. C (input)

·   Ignition OFF.

·   Bridge throttle valve potentiometer P 34:

from:   wiring harness plug Ter. A

to:        wiring harness plug Ter. C

·   Ignition ON

4.9 to 5.1 V

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

from:   throttle valve potentiometer P 34 Ter. B (ground)

to:        throttle valve potentiometer P 34 Ter. C (input)

from:   throttle valve potentiometer P 34 Ter. B

to:        throttle valve potentiometer P 34 Ter. A

 

·   Lead interruption

from:   control unit K 57 Ter. A 8 (input)

to:        throttle valve potentiometer P 34 Ter. C

from:   control unit K 57 Ter. B 8 (+ 5 volts)

to:        throttle valve potentiometer P 34 Ter. A

·   Control unit defective.

 

·   Ignition OFF

·        Connect intake manifold pressure sensor plug P 23

·   Ignition ON

 

 4.9 to 5.1 V

·   Fault in circuit, intake manifold pressure sensor P 23

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Connect coolant temperature sensor plug P 30

·   Ignition ON

 

4.9 to 5.1 V

·   Fault in circuit, coolant temperature sensor P 30

·   Ignition OFF

·   Connect exhaust gas recirculation valve plug Y 18

·   Ignition ON

 

4.9 to 5.1 V

·   Fault in circuit, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Connect exhaust gas recirculation module plug V 15

·   Ignition ON

 

4.9 to 5.1 V

·   Fault in circuit, exhaust gas recirculation module V 15

·   Ignition OFF

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

from:   control unit K 57 Ter. D 2

to:        throttle valve potentiometer P 34 Ter. B

 

less than 2 W

·   Lead interruption

from:   control unit K 57 Ter. D 2

to:        throttle valve potentiometer P 34 Ter. B

·   Control unit defective

·   Check plug P 34 for corrosion and moisture

 

·   Moisture in wiring harness

·   Moisture in potentiometer

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

from:   throttle valve potentiometer Ter. A

to:        throttle valve potentiometer Ter. B

 

Constant 4.0 to 9.0 kW

·   Throttle valve potentiometer defective

·   Ignition OFF

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

from:   throttle valve potentiometer Ter. B

to:        throttle valve potentiometer Ter. C

·   Open throttle valve slowly

closed: 1.0 to 3.0 kW

open: 5.0 to 10.0 kW

·   Throttle valve potentiometer defective
