·   Test step no. 16 OK?

 

·   Ignition OFF

·     Remove plugs from exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18, throttle valve potentiometer P 34, intake manifold pressure sensor P 23 and coolant temperature sensor P 30.

·   Ignition ON

·   Measure voltage:

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. C

to:        ground

less than 0.1 V

·   Carry out test step No. 16, part 2.

 

 

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. D (+ 5 volts)

to:        wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. 0 (actual value)

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. E (+ 12 volts)

to:        wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. C (actual value)

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect control unit plug

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

to:        wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. C

to:        control unit plug K 57 Ter. D11

 

less than 2 W

·   Lead interruption

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. C

to:        control unit plug K 57 Ter. D 11

 

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. C

to:        ground

 

greater than 100 kW

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. C

to:        ground

 

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. B

to:        control unit plug K 57 Ter. D 2

 

less than 2 W

·   Lead interruption

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. B

to:        control unit plug K 57 Ter. D 2

 

·   Connect control unit plug

·   Ignition ON

·   Measure voltage:

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. D

to:        ground

4.9 to 5.1 V

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

·   Lead interruption

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. D

to:        control unit plug K 57 Ter. B 8

 

·   Measure voltage:

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. B

to:        ground

less than 0.1 V

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. B

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. E (+ 12 volts)

from:   wiring harness plug, exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. D (+ 5 volts)

 

·   Remove exhaust gas recirculation valve

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

from:   exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. C

 

 

to:        exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. B

 

1 kW ± 0.3 kW

 

to:        exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. D

 

4.0 kW ± 1.0 kW

·   Exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 defective

·   Using screwdriver, raise piston of exhaust gas recirculation valve from seat and press until mechanical stop

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

from:   exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. C

 

 

 

to:        exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. B

4.5 kW ± 0.3 kW

·   Exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 defective

to:        exhaust gas recirculation valve Y 18 Ter. D

0.6 kW ± 0.1 kW

 

 

If nominal values attained

·   Control unit defective
