Quick Check F5:ACTUATOR TEST No. 01 SELECT ACTUATOR IDLE AIR CONTROL > < Table 3, Control Unit Coding

Table 4, Engine Does Not Start

Table 4 contains the requisite checks for when the engine does not start although TECH 1 is receiving data from the control unit and no trouble code is stored.

The following points should be investigated:

1.    Does the starter turn (see F0: DATA LIST, test step 01), is there fuel in the tank?

2.    Vehicles with MT: engage 4th gear, push vehicle and determine whether engine is mechanically blocked (see Service Instructions).

3.    Vehicles with AT: is the selector lever in P / N?

4.    Is the anti - theft warning system disarmed?

5.    In F0: DATA LIST test step 05, read off engine speed from TECH 1 while starting. Starting engine speed between 100 and 300 rpm. If the starting engine speed varies excessively, there may be a loose contact in the signal lead of the inductive pulse pick - up.

6.    Check primary voltage of ignition system. Ignition ON, measure voltage from direct ignition module L 2 Ter. 1 to ground.

       Nominal value 12 V.

Start engine. While starting, measure voltage from direct ignition module L 2 Ter. 1 to ground. Nominal value 12 V.

7.    Inspect spark plugs, ignition cables, spark plug connectors anF0: DATA LIST test step 35, or TECH 1 MODE "F5" (Table 5) Actuator Test No. 05.

9.    Remove air cleaner. Carry out TECH 1 MODE "F5" (Table 5) Actuator Test No. 06. Check whether fuel is injected, see also F0: DATA LIST test step 33.

10.  Check fuel pressure in supply and return lines. Feed pressure: aprox. 0.75 bar, return pressure: approx. 0.3 bar. If these values are not attained the supply / return line is blocked or kinked, or the fuel pump regulator is defective.

11.  Intake manifold leaky or throttle valve injection housing

12.  Catalytic converter damaged or blocked exhaust system

13.  Check compression.

Note:

Disconnect wiring harness plug from direct ignition system to prevent voltage surges which could destroy the control unit.
