Diagnostic Plug > < Exhaust Gas Recirculation Module, Remove and Install (X 12 SZ, X 14 SZ) SZ)

 

Control Unit, Remove and Install  

Object Number: 616191  Size: DEFAULT  Remove, Disconnect   

Disconnect ground cable from battery. Remove rubber door seal in lower right A pillar area from body edge. Remove storage compartment below instrument panel. For this, remove snap button (1) and screw (left arrow).

Unscrew right A pillar panelling (arrows) and remove.

Object Number: 616191  Size: DEFAULT  Remove, Disconnect   

Unscrew wiring plug connections bracket from A pillar (1, see illus. I) and lay aside.  

Unclip control unit from retaining frame (2). Disconnect wiring harness plugs (3 and 4) from control unit and remove control unit (see illus. II).

Ensure battery was disconnected for at least 20 seconds before disconnecting wiring harness plug.

Vehicles as of MY '96 1/2:  

If engine control unit is defective, replace engine control unit completely. The vehicle data must be programmed into the new engine control unit using TECH 1 or TECH 2 - see corresponding operations in the Checking Procedures. The new engine control unit must be marked with the calibration code of the defective engine control unit before installation.  

Object Number: 616192  Size: DEFAULT  Install, Connect   

Connect both wiring harness plugs to control unit and insert control unit into retaining frame. Bolt bracket for wiring plug connections to A-pillar.  

Install A pillar panelling and storage tray under instrument panel. Fasten door weatherstrip to body web. Connect ground cable to battery.
