Fluid Pressure, Check  

  Inspect   

Connect Fluid Pressure Gauge KM-354-B to fluid circuit pressure line.     Important!    Fluid escapes, top up before checking pressure!     Inspect

With steering in centre position, pressure gauge indicates a pressure of approx. 200 - 500 kPa (2 - 5 bar) with the cutoff valve open.   With steering wheel turned to left or right, the pressure increases and attains its highest level of 9.000-10.000 kPa (90-100 bar) at each full lock. A slight difference in pressure between left and right full lock is not significant.

  Important!   

Never hold steering gear at full lock for longer than 10 seconds.  

  Important!   

When the cutoff valve is closed, the pump also operates at maximum pressure. Only close cutoff valve briefly when reading off from gauge at same time (maximum 10 seconds). Compare both maximum pressures.  

Maximum pressure with cutoff valve closed markedly higher than at steering gear full lock - steering gear hydraulics defective.  

Maximum pressure with cutoff valve closed smaller than specified - fluid pump defective.
