Diagnosis with TECH 1

When checking with TECH 1, observe the following sequence:

F2:TROUBLE CODE

The control unit of an electronic system monitors the system for incorrect behaviour. If a fault is recognised, a trouble code is stored in the control unit, and can then be shown on the TECH 1 display with the function F2:TROUBLE CODE.

Stored trouble codes can only be deleted using TECH 1.

F0:DATA LIST

The function F0:DATA LIST allows the current condition of the monitored signals to be read out. The values displayed by TECH 1 can be compared with the nominal conditions in conjunction with the F0:DATA LIST table.

·     If the actual value deviates from the nominal value, the table provides instructions for elimination of the fault.

·     If the TECH 1 display shows the message "NOT USED", the indicated parameter is not evaluated by the system.

·     When the "ENTER" key is actuated, the number of the current test step is shown on the right side of the display. The test step number can be switched off by pressing the "ENTER" key again.

F5:ACTUATOR TEST

The actuator test causes TECH 1 to activate the actuators (e.g. lamps, relays, horn ...) of the system being tested and subjects them to a function check.

During the actuator test, TECH 1 specifies parameters to the control unit of the tested system which do not correspond to the normal operating conditions. For this reason, the system should always be reinitialised once actuator tests are completed, by switching the ignition off and on again once.

F3:SNAPSHOT

The snapshot function is used when the above measures were unable to determine a malfunction although a complaint was made by the customer.

For snapshots, recreate the driving situation which, according to the customer, lead to the fault occurring.

The snapshot allows even sporadically occurring faults to be localised.

F4:CLEAR CODES

This checking program module function is used to delete the stored trouble codes and alarm codes from the control unit.

F7:PROGRAMMING

The contents of the memory can be programmed to adapt the control unit to its environment. (Entry of country code)

Final system check

After repairs, the system should be subjected to a final check; proceed as described below:

·     Switch ignition off and on again (system is reinitialised)

·     Delete trouble codes (F4:CLEAR CODES)

·     Switch ignition off and on again (system is reinitialised again)

·     Read out trouble codes (no more trouble codes should occur)

·     Check data list parameters (F0:DATA LIST)

·     Recreate driving situation (F3:SNAPSHOT) in which, according to the customer,

the fault occurred (the complaint must not reoccur).
