Part, Steering and Ignition Lock
Vehicles:
Corsa-B,
Tigra, Astra-F, Vectra/Cavalier, Calibra as of MY '95 and Omega-B
with
release aperture in wiring harness
plug of contact part (illus. F 3287, section II, pos. 1).
Condition:
Due
to the modified design of the mount for the steering and ignition lock contact
part, which has been gradually introduced to the individual vehicle types as of
MY '95, the descriptions of the removal and installation procedures in the
Service Instructions have also been altered.
Remedy:
Removal
and installation have already been described in the revised editions of the
relevant Service Instructions.
This Technical Information
Bulletin describes the removal and installation of the contact parts for the
newly introduced ignition locks.
Contact Part - Steering and Ignition Lock, Replace - as of
MY '95
Vehicles with Airbag
Remove, Disconnect
Disconnect
battery.
Remove
steering column cover.
Turn
ignition key to position "I".
Release
lock cylinder with Ø 3 mm/ 0.12 in. pin punch and remove (I,
arrow).
To
release the wiring harness plug, guide pin punch into release opening (II, 1)
and press down lug in contact part wiring harness plug (III, 4), while
carefully levering off and removing wiring harness plug with second
screwdriver (II, 2).
Important!
The
wiring harness plug can only be released when the lock cylinder has been
turned by the key to position "I".

Remove, Disconnect
Unscrew
setscrew (III, 3) from contact part.
Pull
contact part towards steering wheel (IV, arrow) and remove from steering and
ignition lock.

Remove, Disconnect
Disconnect
battery.
Remove
steering column cover.
Turn
ignition key to position "I".
Release
lock cylinder with Ø 3 mm/ 0.12 in. pin punch and remove (I,
arrow).
To
release the wiring harness plug, guide pin punch into release opening (II, 1)
and press down lug in contact part wiring harness plug (III, 4), while
carefully levering off wiring harness plug with second screwdriver (II, 2) as
far as possible.
Wiring harness plug cannot be removed completely.
Important!
The
wiring harness plug can only be released when the lock cylinder has been
turned by the key to position "I".

Remove, Disconnect
Unscrew
setscrew (F 3287, III, 3) from contact part.
Remove
contact part from steering and ignition lock in the illustrated sequence
(F 4806, arrows 1 to 4).

Install, Connect
All
Vehicles with and without Airbag
Use
key to turn lock cylinder to position "I".
Turn
ignition switch (contact part) to position "I" (the recess (1) in
the switch axis must lie opposite the lug (2)).
Connect
wiring harness plug to contact part.
Insert
contact part in steering and ignition lock and fasten with setscrew.

Install, Connect
Insert
lock cylinder - if steering lock pin has engaged, press down block stone (1)
with a screwdriver until retaining pin (2) engages.
Attach
steering column cover - group C.
Connect
battery.
After
connecting the battery, reprogram any volatile memories. With radio coding
and station programming, inform the customer about the decoding and deleted
station memories.
