Trouble Code Storage when...

171

Trouble code is stored if a short circuit to battery +, Ter. 30 or a lead interruption is recognized in the ambient temperature sensor circuit.

Notes on Trouble-shooting:

Nominal Value:

Cause of Fault:

(If nominal value is not attained)

·   Disconnect connection plug from ambient temperature sensor P 13

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance: between the two terminals of ambient temperature sensor P 13

-30 °C/-22 °F

                    83.2  to 94.6 k

-20 °C/-4 °F

                    47.1  to 50.1 k

-10 °C/+ 14 °F

                    26.8  to 28.6 k

·   Check wiring harness plug for corrosion

·   Ambient temperature sensor P 13 defective

0 °C/32 °F

                    15.8  to 16.9 k

10 °C/50 °F

                      9.6  to 10.3 k

20 °C/68 °F

                      6     to 6.5 k

30 °C/86 °F

                      3.9  to 4.2 k

40 °C/l04 °F

                      2.6  to 2.8 k

50 °C/l22 °F

                      1.7  to 1.9 k

·   Measure voltage:

     from:    connection plug P 13

                 (cable colour: BLWS: blue/white)

     to:        connection plug P 13

                 (cable colour: BL: blue)

4.5 V to 5.5 V

Voltage greater than 5.5 V

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

     from:    plug X 23 Ter. 4

     to:        battery +

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

     from:    plug X 23 Ter. 2

     to:        battery +

·   TID defective.

Voltage less than 4.5 V

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

     from:    plug X 23 Ter. 4

     to:        ground

·   Lead interruption

     from:    plug X 23 Ter. 4

     to:        connection plug P 13

                 (cable colour: BLWS: blue/white)

·   Lead interruption.

     from:    plug X 23 Ter. 2

     to:        connection plug P 13

                 (cable colour: BL: blue)

·   Remove TID

·   Disconnect TID plug X 23

·   Voltage:

from:    wiring harness plug X 23 Ter. 4 and Ter. 2

     to:        ground

0 V

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

from:    wiring harness plug X 23 Ter. 4 and Ter. 2

     to:        battery +

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

     from:    plug X 23 Ter. 4

     to:        plug X 23 Ter. 2

¥

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

     from:    plug X 23 Ter. 4

     to:        plug X 23 Ter. 2

If nominal values are attained

·   TID defective

·   If the ambient temperature display adapts only very slowly to the current ambient temperature, the following checks must be carried out.
