Curtain Airbag, Remove and Install (Models F 08, F
68)
 Remove

Disconnect battery
Note: Wait for 1 minute
until capacitor has discharged
|

Remove handle in moulded headlining 
|
| 4. |
Remove inner panelling upper A-pillar (F 08, F 68, F 08 &
W5L)
|
| 5. |
Remove front seat belt (F 08)
|
| 6. |
Remove front seat belt (F 68)
|
| 7. |
Remove and install inner panelling, upper B-pillar (F68)
|
| 8. |
Remove and install inner panelling, upper B-pillar (F 08)
|
| 9. |
Remove rear seat belt (F 08, F 68)
|
| 10. |
Remove rear seat belt (F 68)
|
| 11. |
Remove load compartment cover (F 08, F 68)
|
| 12. |
Remove inner panelling, C-pillar (F 08)
|
| 13. |
Remove inner panelling, C-pillar (F08 & W5L, F 68)
|
| 14. |
Remove interior light
|
| 15. |
Remove interior light panel
|
|
| 16. |
Position of the components
|
|
|
| 17. |
Remove curtain airbag
Warning: Replace curtain airbag
wiring harness if curtain airbag wiring harness is damaged.

Release and disconnect wiring harness plug (1)
|
| • |
Slide curtain airbag to the left and take out of guides (2) on
the inside of the roof frame
Note: 2nd mechanic is
need to release and remove the curtain airbag. A 2nd mechanic is
needed when inserting the curtain airbag. The fastening bolts of
the curtain airbag are coated with Tuflok (to prevent them
loosening). The fastening bolts should generally be replaced when
installing the curtain airbag.

Important: The rivet nuts
(fastening points of curtain airbag to the body) must be checked
for damage.

Install

Insert curtain airbag and fix
|
|
| 20. |
Fasten curtain airbag
Note: The section view
(1–1) shows curtain airbag in installed state.

Push sliding pieces (1) to the right as far as the stop
|
| • |
Tighten 9 bolts 3.5 Nm
| – |
Use Torque Wrench KM-J-6459-B.
|
|
| • |
Connect and latch wiring harness plug
Note: Ensure correct
locking of wiring harness plug (2).

Install inner panelling upper A-pillar (F 08, F 68, F 08 &
W5L)

Install handle in moulded headlining
|
| 23. |
Install inner panelling, upper B-pillar (F 08)
|
| 24. |
Install inner panelling, upper B-pillar (F 68)
|
| 25. |
Install front seat belt (F 08)
|
| 26. |
Install front seat belt (F 68)
|
| 27. |
Install rear seat belt (F 08)
|
| 28. |
Install rear seat belt (F 68)
|
| 29. |
Install load compartment cover (F 08, F 68)
|
| 30. |
Install inner panelling, C-pillar (F 08)
|
| 31. |
Install inner panelling, C-pillar (F08 & W5L, F 68)
|
| 32. |
Install interior light
|
| 33. |
Install interior light panel
|
| 36. |
Program volatile memories
Note: After ignition
ON, the airbag system readiness telltale illuminates for 4 seconds
and then goes out.
