Common Rail system - Z 13 DT DOHC diesel engine

Like engines Y 25 DT and Z 17 DT, the Z 13 DT DOHC diesel engine is also fitted with a Common Rail system.

The main features of a Common Rail system are:

• A high-pressure pump which generates a pressure of up to 1400 bar on the Z 13 DT engine.
• A pressure accumulator (rail) which stores fuel at high pressure and compensates for pressure pulsations.
• Injectors (injector nozzles with electronically controlled valves) which accurately meter the injection processes.

The Z 13 DT engine has a multijet system which carries out several small injection processes in the course of one expansion stroke. An exact description can be found in the section on the "Multijet system".
