Diesel Glow Plugs (Current Measurement), 4 Cylinder

 

Objective:

Evaluation of the glow plugs operation.

Measurement:

Current consumption for the post heating phase before a cold start.

Preparation:

Check battery charge.

Use multimeter function to adjust current probe to zero.

Engine oil temperature between 20°C and 80°C .

Switch off the engine, switch off ignition, switch off all electrical loads. Disconnect the wiring harness from the engine coolant temperature sensor.

INPUT B

Clamp the current measurement probe across the glow plugs. The minus sign on the current indicator points towards the glow plugs. Select the 1mV/A measurement range.

 

 

This test is performed with the multimeter-function of the Tech 31/32 in ampere mode. In this case, the numerical value in amperes indicates the working order of the glow plugs and not the graph.

Note:   Check the battery charge.

Procedure Tech 31:

1. Download Reference curve.
2. Switch on ignition.

2. Switch on ignition.
