Steering Column, Assemble and EPS Steering Column,
Check
Warning: If
deformations are found at the bulkhead/crossmember or contact with
the steering column assembly or EPS steering column, the steering
column assembly or EPS steering column must be examined for
damage.
Remove
1. |
Remove steering column assembly or remove
EPS-steering column

2. |
Check shear plates (1) for correct seating
Note: If the shear
plate is loose or displaced, the steering column assembly or the
EPS steering column must be replaced.

|
|
3. |
Measure the length of the steering column assembly or EPS
steering column
Dimension I:
|
585.8 ± 1 mm
|
(Total length of steering shaft)
|
Dimension II:
|
225 ± 1 mm
|
(distance from centre of fastening holes to steering column
assembly bracket)
|
Dimension III:
|
123 ± 1 mm
|
(distance from centre of mounting holes to EPS steering column
bracket, top and centre)
|
Note: If the specified
lengths are not met, the steering column assembly or the EPS
steering column is compressed and must be replaced.
|
|
Warning: If damage is found to the
steering column assembly or EPS-steering column, the steering
intermediate shaft must be checked for damage. A damaged steering
intermediate shaft must be replaced.

Check steering shaft for ease of movement

Press locking pin downwards (arrow) until it latches in
– |
With the lock cylinder fitted, unlock steering lock with
ignition key and turn steering shaft.
Note: If the steering
shaft does not move freely or the steering shaft bearing is felt to
be damaged, the steering column assembly or the EPS steering column
must be replaced.
