Tandem Master Cylinder, Disassemble

 

Remove brake fluid reservoir from tandem master cylinder.

Press piston into tandem master cylinder to depth of approx. 10 mm/ 0.4 in. with a suitable wooden or plastic drift. Then insert a rounded-off, deburred fitting needle (or welding rod approx. 3 mm/ 0.12 in. dia.) into the fluid supply hole of the tandem master cylinder so that the piston remains pressed in.

Lever circlip out of master cylinder housing by applying two screwdrivers.

Ensure that the piston and cylinder wall are not damaged.

 

Note:

Never reuse the circlip.

Remove rear piston from housing by knocking the tandem master cylinder against a wooden base until piston can be removed.

 

Disassemble rear piston. To do this, insert piston into KM-343 and screw on top part of KM-343.

Compress piston spring with tool until retaining ring is loose in the opening of the tool.

Use two screwdrivers to remove retaining ring - do not damage piston head.

 

Clean all parts with brake fluid or alcohol - do not use any other liquid.

Check housing and piston for wear.

If coatings (rust) are on the cylinder wall, the tandem master cylinder is to be replaced. Renew rubber parts and retainers that are removed.
