Brake Servo, Check Function
With engine stopped, produce vacuum in brake servo by pumping brake pedal several times. Then push pedal down and hold in this position. Start engine. Brake servo system is okay if pedal drops further due to extra force produced. If brake pedal does not drop further, check the vacuum system or, with diesel engines, the vacuum pump. If vacuum system is not defective, the fault is in the brake servo itself.
