Brake Shoes, Adjust - on Vehicles with Self-adjusting Parking Brake

After a brake repair or other operations including disassembly of the brake, subsequent adjustment of the rear wheel brake is necessary.

The adjusting unit must be completely forced together by turning. The pinion (1) must not lock at end of adjusting unit.

Mount brake drum. Mount rear wheels.

Lower vehicle.

Illus. D 8598 shows the subsequent adjusting unit with adjusting lever and return spring.

Apply service brake several times until the skipping of the adjusting lever on the adjusting pinion is no longer audible.

Note:

By applying the service brake the adjusting pinion (1), actuated by the adjusting lever (2), turns the adjusting unit outwards, and the brake shoes are adjusted to minimum clearance with the drum hub.
