Compression, Check

(Illus. show 15 D)

 

The compression is checked at operating temperature (approx. 80 °C/176 °F engine oil temperature) with a compression recording tester.

Test range: 10 to 40 bar/145 to 580 psi.

 

Detach solenoid valve.

Remove glow plug rail and glow plugs.

Screw Adapter KM - 649 (1) in conjunction with KM - 533 - A (2) into each glow plug drill hole in turn.

Connect compression recording tester (commercially available) with flexible connecting hose.

 

Operate starter for approx. 4 seconds and check compression pressure. The engine speed should be at least 200 rpm.

 

The recorded compression difference between the individual cylinders should not exceed 1.5 bar/21.75 psi.

 

After completion of check re-install glow plugs.

Prescribed torque: 20 Nm/15 lbf. ft.
