V-belt Tension, Check and Adjust

 

V-belt tension should be checked with Tester (1) KM - 128 - A. Checking area chosen should if possible be the section between the two belt pulleys.

The tester lever must be pressed down until the pin on the microswitch makes contact with the V-belt. When contact is made a buzzing tone can be heard.

 

Note reading on scale and multiply by 100 (10).

The value thus arrived at is the V-belt tension in N (kp).

 

V-belt tension

                   New           N (kp)         450 (45)

                   Run-in        N (kp)         250 to 300 (25 to 30)

 

 

If the V-belt tension does not correspond to the prescribed value, the alternator should be loosened at the bracket and retaining strap.

Re-adjust the V-belt tension and tighten alternator at bracket and retaining strap.
