· Increase engine speed slowly to 830 - 990 rpm-1 · Carry out test step 04 3500 rpm-1 by actuating accelerator cable, hold briefly and allow to return to idle speed. This stepper motor reset is carried out on the C 14 NZ only after the control unit has been disconnected from vehicle voltage.
· Select TECH 1 mode "F7", submode Engine speed increases · Throttle valve gap too large or too small, "F0" and increase (1500 rpm-1) and and decreases (alter basic adjustment only in emergencies, decrease (1000 rpm-1) idle speed see next page but one.) with arrow keys - Engine takes in dead air. - Trouble codes 21 and 22 set.
* Only approx. 10% of all checked stepper motors are really defective. Please first carry out the check according to the Checking Procedures. If the actuator test is OK, the stepper motor cannot be defective!
Trouble-shooting: Nominal Value: Cause of Fault: (If nominal value is not attained)
· Remove plug at idle speed stepper A/C: approx. 6.6 ~ V · Lead interruption from stepper motor motor M 33. B/D: approx. 6.6 ~ V to control unit. TECH 1 in mode "F1" (F1=blink code) Measure between Ter. A and Ter. C (Test functions only and Ter. B and Ter. D consecutively in mode "F1") with voltmeter (20 V/AC)
· Remove motor M 33. Tappet travels in and · Servo motor defective Connect plug at idle speed stepper out noticeably motor M 33. - Select TECH 1 in mode "F1". Compress tappet slightly with thumbs.
· Measure resistance of coils A-B 50 W to 65 W · Servo motor defective and C-D at servo motor, remove plug.
Trouble-shooting: Nominal Value: Cause of Fault: (If nominal value is not attained)
· Further causes · Throttle valve gap too large or too small, (alter basic adjustment only in emergencies, see below). · Engine takes in dead air. · Seat of servo motor dirty. · Basic adjustment of ignition incorrect. Use TECH 80 or stroboscope for adjustment. See also test step 17 · Spark plugs defective · Mixture too lean or too rich. · Battery voltage too high/low · Odometer frequency sensor defective or circuit interrupted.
Basic adjustment of throttle valve (alter only in emergency):
1. Remove throttle valve injection housing, if necessary. 2. Unscrew throttle valve stop screw - after removing protective cover - until there is visible play (approx. 0.5 mm/0.02 in.) between the stop screw and the throttle lever. 3. Screw in stop screw until it just touches the throttle lever (no visible play). 4. Screw in stop screw a further 1½ to 1 3/4 turns (throttle valve is now opened by a defined gap). 5. Then check values of FO:DATA LIST at idle speed (engine operating temperature).
