Table 4, Engine Does Not Start

Table 4 contains the requisite checks for when the engine does not start although TECH 1 is receiving data from the control unit and no trouble code is stored.

The following points must be checked:

1. Battery voltage must be > 8 volts during starting operation.

2. Remove air cleaner. Carry out Actuator Test TECH 1 MODE "F5". At the same time, check whether fuel is injected.

3. Read off engine speed from TECH 1 in Data List "F0" during starting operation.

Cranking speed between 100 and 300 rpm. If the cranking speed varies considerably, there may be a loose contact in the REF signal line.

4. Check fuel pressure in feed and return.

5. Fuel pump relay is active, pump runs for approx. 2 sec. after ignition "ON".

Fuel pump relay must be active when the engine is started, otherwise the REF signal line is interrupted or the fuel pump relay or circuit is defective.

6. Compression

7. Primary voltage

8. Secondary voltage

9. Leaky intake manifold

10. Catalytic converter damage - blocked exhaust line!
