Piston Rings, Replace > < Starter Ring Gear, Replace

 

 

Piston with Con-rod, Remove and Install (Engine Installed)

 

For clearer representation, this operation is described for a removed engine.

 

Remove cylinder head - see corresponding operation.

 

Remove oil pan - see operation "Oil Pan Gasket, Replace".

 

Mark con-rod bearing caps before removing.

Remove con-rod bearing caps.

 

Push pistons with con-rods upwards out of cylinder head.

Replace pistons - see operation "Con-rod, Replace"

Before inserting pistons in cylinders, turn all con-rod bearing journals to "BDC" or "TDC".

Piston ring offset 180° for each.

 

Oil scraper rings should be offset 25 to 50 mm/1 to 2 in. to left and right of intermediate ring gap - see operation "Piston Rings, Replace"

Insert piston/con-rod assembly with lubricated con-rod bearing halves into relevant cylinder.

Ensure correct installation. Arrow on piston head points to timing gear side and bead on piston (arrow) to clutch side of engine.

Position piston ring compressor and compress piston rings.

Push piston into cylinder with hammer handle until con-rod bearing shell is seated on con-rod journal of crankshaft.

Lubricate all con-rod bearings and mount bearing caps.

Observe prescribed torque - see Technical Data.

Install oil pan and cylinder head.
