Engine without Transmission, Remove and Install
Remove
Disconnect battery.
Remove bonnet.
Remove air cleaner.
Remove air intake hose - if present.
|
|
|
Place sump pan underneath, remove lower coolant hose, drain
and collect coolant.
|
|
|
Remove all cable connections, hoses and lines leading to
engine.
Important:
Close fuel lines with spring clamps before
pulling off.
Observe general safety regulations for handling combustible
fluids.
Illustration shows E 16 SE engine.

|
Remove bowden cable for throttle valve actuation (intake
pipe side).
Remove coolant pipe from cylinder block.

Attach engine to Engine Holder
KM - 263 - B.
Remove front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
C 14 SE, C 16 SE and C 16 SEI,
disconnect wiring plug from oxygen sensor.

|
|
Remove clutch cover plate.
Remove crankshaft pulley,
For this, counterhold on flywheel with KM - 517.
Illustration D 8026 shows C 14 SE and
C 16 SE.
For C 14 SE and C 16 SE, remove bracket
for inductive pulse pick -up.
|
|
|
For C 16 SEI, remove bracket for inductive pulse
pick -up see illustration D 0959.
Remove drive shaft from transmission -
see corresponding operation in group K.
|
|
|
Remove front right engine damping block with bracket from cylinder
block and side member.
|
|
|
Unscrew lower fastening bolts of clutch housing to engine
block.
|
|
|
Support engine with lifter and remove Engine Holder
KM - 263 - B.
Attach hoisting cables to engine, press off from
transmission and lift upwards out of engine compartment.
|
|
|
Install
Lower engine, insert guide bushings of engine block in
transmission.
Support engine with lifter.
|
|
|
Install upper fastening bolts of transmission casing to
engine block.
Tightening torque: 75 Nm/55 lbf. ft.
Attach engine to Engine Holder
KM - 263 - B.
Remove lifter.

|
|
Attach lower transmission fastening bolts to engine block.
Install engine damping block with bracket on cylinder block
and side member.
Tightening torque:
Engine damping block
bracket to cylinder block - 60 Nm/44 lbf.
ft.
Engine damping block
to side member - 65 Nm/48
lbf. ft.
Lower transmission fastening
bolts to engine block - 75 Nm/55 lbf.
ft.
Install drive shaft in transmission - see corresponding
operation in group K.

|
Install crankshaft pulley.
Counterhold at flywheel with KM - 517.
Illustration D 8026 shows C 14 SE and
C 16 SE.
Tightening torque:
Crankshaft pulley to crankshaft - see table
"Recommended Torque Values".
Install bracket for inductive pulse pick -up.
For C 14 SE, C 16 SE and C 16 SEI
engine, check reference dimension between inductive pulse pick -up and
segment disc after installation of crankshaft pulley - see corresponding
operation.
Install clutch cover plate and front exhaust pipe.

|
Remove Engine Holder KM - 263 - B.
Install alternator with bracket.
Install coolant pipe on cylinder block.
Mount V-belt and tension.
See operation "V-belt Tension, Check and Adjust".
Tightening torque:
generator bracket to cylinder
block (M 10) - 40 Nm/29.5
lbf. ft.
coolant pipe to cylinder
block (M 8) - 20 Nm/15
lbf. ft.

|
Install all cable connections, hoses and fines leading to
engine.
Remove spring clamps from fuel lines
Note:
Check all ground connections for good condition and tight
seating.
Install bowden cable for throttle valve actuation without
tensioning.
Install air cleaner.
Install air intake hose - if present.
Install bonnet.
Connect battery.
Refill and bleed cooling system.
