Aperture in Toothed Belt Cover

 

Group J-229 ONLY Vauxhall

 

Vehicles:

 

All vehicles MY'91 and MY'92 with family I OHC petrol engines (up to 1.6 ltr. displacement) with automatic toothed belt tensioner.

As of MY'92 1/2, a newly designed toothed belt cover with no aperture is installed in some vehicles.

For vehicles that were first registered as of January 1992, first check whether there is an aperture.

In vehicles without power steering, this can be seen from above. In vehicles with power steering, check from below (check by touch).

 

As of MY '93, a of toothed belt cover without an aperture is used for all vehicles.

Condition:   Toothed belt jumps   Cause:   Foreign objects (e.g. gravel) can penetrate through the aperture in the rear toothed belt cover above the oil pump housing.   Remedy:   During the next workshop visit, insert a suitably moulded piece of sponge rubber in the aperture.
Note:   The moulded piece of sponge rubber is installed from above. In the Corsa/Nova with the C 14 SE, C 16 SE, C 16 SEI and E 16 SE engines, the air cleaner must be removed and reinstalled.   For vehicles with power steering, insert the moulded piece of sponge rubber from below into the toothed belt cover.   For vehicles with power steering in conjunction with a ribbed V-belt, detach the belt before installation.
The ribbed V-belt tension must then be adjusted using KM-612 and a torque wrench. Adjustment value for - new ribbed V-belt:        400 N to 430 N, corresponds to 55 Nm*/41 lbf. ft. run-in ribbed V-belt:     350 N, corresponds to 50 Nm*/37 lbf. ft.   *      Disdplay on torque wrench

Moulded piece of sponge rubber with Part No. 90 469 594 / Cataloue No. 06 38 731

 

Time Allowance:

 

T 0296 00        Aperture in Toothed Belt Cover - Close off with Moulded Piece of Sponge Rubber    .2 hrs

                        TC: 99

 

                        +:    Corsa/Nova with C 14 SE, E 16 SE, C 16 SE and C 16 SEI enginre:                            .3 hrs

                               Remove and reinstall air cleaner.

                        +:    Vehicles with power steering in conjunction with ribbed V-belt:                                   .3 hrs

                               Detach ribbed V-belt and tension.
