Shaft for Valve Rocker Arm, Replace

Cylinder Head Installed

The shafts for valve rocker arms can be replaced separately.

This requires sliding a suitable pipe sleeve about 25 mm / 1 in. long and a washer as a thrust element onto the shaft.

The shaft can then be pulled out of the cylinder head with a standard M 8 nut. If length of thread is not sufficient, it might be necessary to use several additional washers while pulling out the shaft.

In the case of rocker arm shafts with thread broken off on the neck, new thread will have to be cut to pull shaft out of cylinder head.

Two versions of the shaft, both differing in diameter, may be installed at the factory. A replacement shaft must always be the same size as that being replaced. The one shaft of the two versions is completely smooth: the other shaft has a 0.15 mm / 0.006 in. shoulder.

Lightly coat new shaft with oil and drive it into bore with a copper hammer to a height of 28 ± 0.5 mm / 1.102 ± 0.020 in., measured between sealing surface and end of shaft. Position of oil outlet hole is not important.

When installing just one shaft, the correct height can also be checked by placing a ruler or square on the installed shaft.
