Differential, Remove and Disassemble (Transmission
Removed)
Unbolt differential cover from transmission housing.
Remove both seals from bearing ring and from transmission
housing, using KM - 557 or Kukko Puller 21/6 in conjunction with
Kukko Support 22-2 (only when replacing seals if differential remains
installed).

Mark bearing ring position on ring and on transmission
housing (arrow).
Check tapered roller bearings for free play.
Move differential housing by hand in axial direction.
If there is axial play, this must be considered when
reassembling later.

Unscrew bearing ring from transmission housing using
KM - 447.
Unscrew locking plate beforehand.
Hold differential in place and remove through cover opening.
|
|
With the differential removed, the two seals should
be driven out of the bearing ring and transmission housing with KM-454-2 and
-4.
Drive tapered roller bearing outer race out of bearing ring
using KM - 304 and KM - 451. Place Sleeve
KM - 303 underneath.

Only necessary when replacing the bearing:
Drive tapered roller bearing outer race out of transmission
housing using KM - 304 and KM - 451.
With transmission housing installed and on vehicles
with twin exhaust system, KM - 305 should be used instead of
KM - 304.

Only necessary when replacing the bearing:
Remove both tapered roller bearing inner races from
differential using KM - 161 - A in conjunction with Hook
KM - 161 - 3 and Pressure Piece
KM - 161 - 4.

|
Unscrew driven gear from differential housing.
Knock off driven gear with brass drift.
Important:
Do not damage speedometer gear (driving).
Always replace the ring and main shaft gear as a pair.

Only necessary for replacement:
Knock speedometer driving gear from differential housing
(destroy).
Remove retaining rings, left and right, from differential
bevel gear axle.
Drive pinion shaft out of differential housing with drift.
|
|
Turn differential pinion and side gear out of differential
housing.
Remove plate washers.
|
|
