Shift Cover, Remove and Disassemble

Unscrew transmission vent plug from cover.

Remove plug from adjusting bore hole, insert KM-527.

Unbolt cover from transmission housing and remove.

Bolt cover onto KM-552.

Optionally, use KM-448.

Up to Model Year '90:

Remove retaining ring, bushing, pressure spring, shift intermediate lever and spring (not present on older transmissions) from guide pins.

As of Model Year '91:

Shift intermediate lever with Teflon bushings.

Remove additional washer from guide pin.

Use suitable drift to drive retaining pin (1) from shift finger (2) and shift rod (3).

Observe depression in cover.

Withdraw shift rod (3).

No provision is made for further disassembly of the cover.

The cover is supplied as a replacement part only as a complete assembly with guide pin and cover plate.

Remove seal ring from cover.
