The production of the "Inspection System" as of Model Year '94 1/2 up to Model Year '96 brochure has been delayed. The brochure will be delivered in the coming weeks.

The following pages, extracts from the new "Inspection System" brochure, contain information about the scope of the Predelivery Inspection - including the Vectra - B - and the requisite time allowances. Current information about the inspection system can also be found in the New Technical Features brochures for the Vectra - B (Part 1) and Model Year '96.

Introduction

The following alterations / new features as of Model Year 1995 / 1996 must be especially noted:

Predelivery Inspection, Model Year 1996

The following test position is omitted from the predelivery inspection for all models:

-      Spare Tyre Pressure, Check

The following test positions are omitted from the predelivery inspection for the Vectra - B:

-      Octane Number Adjustment, Check (except 16 LZ2 engine)

-      Headlamp Alignment, Check

Check and, if necessary, adjust the alignment of the front fog lamps

The following test positions are omitted from the predelivery inspection for the Corsa - B and Tigra only:

-      Automatic Transmission Fluid Level, Check, Correct

The test positions are verified in production and therefore do not need to be checked during the predelivery inspection.

Position

Operation

I.   Engine Compartment

1.    Coolant Level, Check, Correct, except Omega - B

When the engine is cold, the coolant level in the compensation tank must not sink below the "KALT" (cold) mark. For correction, use Radiator Anti - freeze 19 40 656 (90 297 545).

2.    Engine Oil Level, Check, Correct, except Omega - B

Engine oil filling quantities (MIN to MAX) see page 84.

3.    Screen / Headlamp Cleaning Wash / Wipe System, Check, Fill

Fill compensation tank, if necessary add Agent 17 58 272 (90 188 367).

Check system function.

4.    Octane Number Plug, Check, Set Code, except Omega - B, for Vectra - B only 16 LZ2 engine

All engines listed below are equipped with coding plugs for octane number adjustment. This coding plug allows a choice between two fuel types by changing the plug direction.

Important:

Fuels with low octane numbers - e. g. 91 RON - can cause engine damage if the coding is incorrect - e. g. 95 RON; fuels with a higher octane number than coded do not cause damage. If the plug is set to a higher octane number, the correspondingly higher fuel quality must be used. Only adjust the octane number setting with the engine switched off.

Caution:

The customer must be expressly informed about the significance of the octane number adjustment on delivery of the vehicle.

Operation

5.    Automatic Transmission Fluid Level, Check, Correct, except Omega - B, Corsa - B, Tigra

Fluid level must be checked here at room temperature (approx. + 20 °C / 68 °F) and not at operating temperature.

Before checking the fluid level, shift selector lever briefly into all driving stages with the engine running and the vehicle braked. Check at idle speed in selector lever position "P" and with the vehicle standing horizontally.

Note temperature mark.

Automatic Transmission for Front Wheel Drive

- below + 35 °C / 95 °F - after 1 minute of idling within a period of 2 minutes.

Correct fluid level: mark "MAX".

Top - up quantity between "MIN" and "MAX" = 0.25 ltr.

Use Special Fluid 19 40 699 (90 350 341)

II.        Body, Interior

1.    Illumination and Signalling Equipment, Check

Check entire illumination equipment (inner and outer) and brake lamps, headlamp flash, turn signal lamp, hazard warning lamps and horn for correct functioning.

2.    Headlamp Alignment, Check, Correct except Vectra - B, Omega - B

Check and correct alignment of headlamps, high beam headlamps and front fog lamps. Check headlamp range control.

For the Vectra - B, check and, if necessary, correct the alignment of the front tog lamps.

III.       Chassis, Underbody

1.    Tyre Pressure Car Level Control, Check, Correct

Check and correct tyre pressure.

Tyre pressures - see data on page 87.

For manual car level control, check minimum pressure of 80 kPa (0.8 bar).

If applicable, slide supplied loose plastic caps onto wheel bolts or install wheel covers.

IV.       Test Drive incl. Brake Check, Final Inspection

Check condition on test drive or test stand. incl. Brake Check,

Observe the following among other items: Final Inspection

a)

Check steering and ignition lock, for diesel engines glow starter switch, for automatic transmission starting and reversing lamps switch, instruments and telltales for correct functioning, turn signal switches for automatic cancelling. Check tilting and extendable steering column for correct functioning.

b)

Check board computer / Info - Display - Systems for correct functioning. Adjust time and, if applicable, date. With ignition switched on, reset stopwatch and ambient temperature display; with engine running reset displays for average fuel consumption, average speed and, if applicable, range. After test drive, check average fuel consumption, average speed and range. For vehicles with remote control, check the central locking and anti - theft device with both remote control transmitters.

c)

Electronically controlled window winders; with automatic opening and closing, check functioning, if necessary reprogram window winders. Programming is required after reconnecting the battery.

d)

Check ventilation and heating including fan and air conditioning for efficiency and ease of regulation. Check heated screen and seat heating for correct functioning.

e)

Check brake servos for correct functioning: with engine switched off depress brake pedal several times and with pedal depressed start engine. The pedal must drop further noticeably.

f)

Check service and parking brakes for efficiency and regular braking force (brake test stand). The brake pedal travel must not decrease even after repeated actuation.

For vehicles with rear wheel disc brakes, drive approx. 300 m / 330 yards at low speed with the parking brake applied slightly. Check for correct functioning.

g)

Check engine for abnormal noises. Check body and chassis for noise.

For catalytic converter vehicles, note especially any engine misfiring / faults in the ignition system, to avoid damage to the catalytic converter. It necessary, carry out trouble - shooting / eliminate fault.

h)

Radio, activate coding, check function.

V.  Prepare Vehicle for Delivery

Check interior including cushions and screens for dirt, clean.

Remove check sticker, protective covers and foil. Check functioning of safety belts (belt retractor and buckle) and seat and backrest adjustment.

Check vehicle for paint damage, scratches and other types of damage, eliminate small paint defects.

Compare the number of the car key in the vehicle papers with the number on the vehicle key tab. It there are deviations, correct the entry in the vehicle papers.

For vehicles with radio remote control, only when supplied together with label sheets, attach sticker for the radio remote control (license) to the special field on the remote control in accordance with the national identification.
