Drive Shaft|Description and Operation > < Seal Ring - Drive Shaft, Replace

Folding Cover and/or Wheel-side Joint of Drive Shaft, Replace

  Remove

Remove drive shaft – refer to operation "Remove and Install or Replace Drive Shaft". Clamp drive shaft in vice. Remove sealing cover.

Bend open retaining clamp and remove.

When replacing both folding covers:

Cut open both folding covers and remove.


When replacing wheel-side joint:

Cut open wheel-side folding cover and remove.


  Clean

Remove grease from drive shaft and constant velocity joint.

  Remove

Remove retaining ring from drive shaft with KM-396 (1).

Press wheel-side joint from drive shaft with suitable drift and KM-307-B (2).

  Install

When replacing both folding covers:

Fill transmission-side joint with grease. Fasten folding cover with new retaining strap, ensuring that folding cover is ventilated and correctly seated (not twisted). Tension retaining strap with Clamp Pliers KM-J-22610 (3) or corresponding commercially available alternative.

  Install

Place wheel-side folding cover on drive shaft. Drive wheel-side joint (1) with suitable sleeve (2) onto drive shaft until stop.

Install retaining ring using KM-396 (3) – ensure correct seating.

Fill wheel-side joint with grease.

Fasten folding cover with new retaining strap, ensuring that folding cover is ventilated and correctly seated (not twisted). Tension retaining strap with Clamp Pliers KM-J-22610 (4) or corresponding commercially available alternative.

Install closure cap to stop.

Install drive shaft – see operation "Drive Shaft, Remove and Install".
