Rear Axle Body, Replace (Rear Axle Removed)

  Remove

Remove fastening bolts for stabiliser (6), rear differential (2 and 3), semi-trailing arm (4) and auxiliary control arm, and for rear damping blocks (1) for rear axle body and remove parts.

For vehicles with level control system: Transfer level control sensor – tightening torque 10 Nm / 7.5 lbf. ft.

For vehicles with xenon low beam headlamps: Transfer vehicle level control sensor – tightening torque 10 Nm / 7.5 lbf. ft.

Note:   New rear axle bodies are supplied with damping bushings (5). Following removal/installation or replacement of vehicle level control sensors, a comparison is required via TECH2 – see corresponding Checking Procedure.

  Install

If necessary: Press new damping bushings (5) into new rear axle body using KM-618-1 and KM-618-2-A.

Attach semi-trailing arm to rear axle body (4) – tightening torque 100 Nm / 74 lbf. ft. Attach stabiliser to rear axle body (6) – tightening torque 22 Nm / 16 lbf. ft. Attach auxiliary control arm to rear axle body – tightening torque 90 Nm / 66.5 lbf. ft., use new locking nut.

Attach rear differential to rear of rear axle body with new fastening bolts (2) – tightening torque 90 Nm / 66.5 lbf. ft. +30° + 15°. Attach rear differential to front of rear axle body with new fastening bolts (3) – tightening torque 100 Nm / 74 lbf. ft. + 75° + 15°. Attach damping blocks (1) to rear axle body with new fastening bolts – tightening torque 90 Nm / 66.5 lbf. ft. + 30° + 15°.

Install rear axle – see operation "Rear Axle with Rear Differential, Remove and Install".
