Chassis Alignment
The following points must be noted before chassis alignment:
- ensure that the specified size of disc wheels and tyres are
being used;
- ensure that the disc wheels and wheel bearing unit are in
perfect condition.
- Tyres uniform and in good condition.
- Correct tyre pressures on all wheels. Both wheels on each axle
must have equal tyre pressures. Values can be found in the Service
Manual for each vehicle, or in the relevant brochure for that model
year, i.e. "Inspection System" or "Inspection System/Service
Plan".
- No visible damage on the chassis (no play in the tie rod and
ball joints, chassis suspension).
- Front axle: permissible difference in length between the two
tie rods: max. 5 mm.
- Rear axle: permissible difference in length between the two
adjustment pieces of the auxiliary control arms: Max. 3 mm.
- Regulations and instructions issued by chassis alignment system
manufacturer.
The following operations must be performed before chassis
alignment:
- Fill fuel tank.
- Put vehicle into alignment position.
- Each front seat with a load of 70 kg.
- Put steering in straight ahead position.
- Push down on vehicle suspension several times to enable the
suspension to adopt its starting position.
Measure
Determine actual values using the electronic chassis alignment
system, for nominal values – see "Technical Data –
Chassis Alignment Values", in group "E" or as of MY '99, see the
relevant brochure "Chassis Alignment Values". Please note
instructions and specifications issued by chassis alignment system
manufacturer. Printout of vehicle and chassis data.
