Crankshaft/Camshaft Inductive Pick-up (Only Simtec)

Inductive pick-ups are used on the crankshaft and the camshaft for vehicles fitted with Simtec 56.0 and 56.1. These pick-ups operate using the phase shift for two sinusoidal oscillations. Because the adaptation and reference signals for both of the inductive pick-ups are identical, the testing for these two sensors has been combined into one test.

Measurement:

Plot of voltage at the signal output of the inductive pick-up in comparison to the voltage plot in the oscillator circuit.

Check Objective:

Operational check

Preparation

Switch off the engine and ignition.

Connections

INPUT A

INPUT B

Connect the red measurement lead to pin 1 of the plug connector for the inductive pick-up. Connect the ground lead to pin 3 or ground.

Connect the grey measurement lead to pin 2 of the plug connector for the inductive pick-up. Connect the ground lead to pin 3.

Procedure

Switch on ignition.

Reference Curve

Object Number: 2397001 Size: DEFAULT

If the measurement only shows one signal plot (sinusoidal curve), the excited oscillation of the oscillator circuit is missing. This can be traced to a fault on the inductive pick-up.
