TI-C-43, group J-287, dated February 1997
Subject:
Altered Assembly Sequence for Oil Pump
Vehicles:
Vectra-B, Calibra, Omega-B and Sintra with V6 DOHC Petrol
Engine (X 25 XE and X 30 XE).
Condition:
Following publication of the above Technical Bulletin, the
assembly sequence for the oil pump was extended once again.
In order to ensure that, after replacement of the oil pump
gasket, the fastening bolts for the oil pump do not loosen and cause leaks,
proceed as described below.
In addition, during Model Year ´97, design modifications have
been made to the oil pump and the rear toothed belt cover.

Remedy:
Comparison of individual components.
The hatched surfaces show the alterations:
1 Old oil pump
2 New oil pump (design modifield and stator enlarged)
3 New fastening bolt (M6 x 25)
4 Old rear toothed belt cover
5 New read toothed belt cover (with bore for oil pump
fastening bolt)
These modifications mean that there are now two different
assembly sequences for the oil pump.

As previously described in TI - C - 43,
J - 287, the oil pump gasket may only be coated lightly on
the pump fastening bolts in the prescribed order (1 - 6) to a
tightening torque of 8 Nm/6 lbf. ft.
Assembly Sequence 1:
Version without additional bore in rear toothed belt
cover (old version)
Install lower toothed belt guide roller (7) and alternator
(8) - tightening torque 40 Nm/29.5.lbf.ft.
Allow the oil pump sealing compound to cure for approx. 10
min.
Do not attach the rear toothed belt cover yet.
Now retighten oil pump fastening bolts to a tightening
torque of 10 Nm / 7 lbf. ft.
Remove toothed belt guide roller again and attach rear
toothed belt cover.
Follow the standard assembly procedure from this point on.

Assembly Sequence 2:
Version with additional bore in rear toothed belt cover
(new version)
Install and adjust alternator, rear toothed belt cover and
the complete belt drive.
Before installing the front toothed belt cover, retighten all
7 oil pump fastening bolts to a tightening torque of
10 Nm / 7 lbf.ft.

The time allowances for additional operations remain
unchanged and can be found in the current LTG publications.
Important:
The specified time allowances do not include the tim
allowance for the vehicle set-up of .2 hrs.
For reimbursement of the vehicle set-up time of .2 hrs in
warranty claims, enter the authorisation code "T" and increase the
main operation time allowance by. 2hrs.
The authorisation code may only be used once per work
order. It may only be used more than one if the wirkplace and workteam are
chagend at hte same time.
