DOHC Petrol Engine|General > < V6 Engine Toothed Belt cover

Subject:

Marking of engine blocks or short blocks to be replaced in Service.

Vehicles:

Vectra-B, Omega-B, Calibra and Sintra with V6 DOHC petrol engine (X 25 XE and X 30 XE).

Condition:

At present, three versions of the V6 DOHC petrol engine are available in the field, which differ from one another in various modifications to engine blocks, oil pump housings and toothed belt covers and which cannot be combined with one another.

In future, only the current version (as of Model Year ‘99) will be available for Service.

If however, for example, the engine block of a Model Year '97 vehicle is exchanged for a Model Year '99 Service block, the "old" Model Year '97 engine number is transferred to the new Model Year '99 engine block, in accordance with the Service Instructions.

Thus, for subsequent repairs, the engine block could not be identified as a Model Year '99 engine block but would be allocated to Model Year '97 because of the engine number.

Remedy:

In order to guarantee clear identification of cylinder blocks replaced in Service, the engine designation, such as X 25 XE, and the engine number from the replaced engine block must first be transferred to the flat surface on the transmission side of the new engine block (1).

Subsequently, a large "R" (2) is punched into the flat surface at a given distance from the engine number.

This "R" (Replaced) stands for the engine block replaced by Service from Model Year 1999 and subsequent model years.
