Determine end play of auxiliary shaft gear cluster in front section of transmission housing (R 25/R 28)

Note:   This operation is necessary when replacing the following parts: Front section of transmission housing, transmission nose piece, auxiliary shaft gear cluster and/or roller bushings.

  Install

Arrest transmission nose piece vertically. Install auxiliary shaft gear cluster in previously installed roller bushing in transmission nose piece.

KM-713-2 (1) to front bearing journal of auxiliary shaft gear cluster.

 Object Number: 2381736 Size: DEFAULT


Torque

Fasten front part of transmission housing to transmission nose piece – 22 Nm / 16 lbf. ft.

  Install

KM-238-2 (1) onto transmission. Screw 2 probes (2) of KM-238-4 together and install in gauge.

Place probes on protruding tooth of gear cluster and set gauge to "0".

  Measure

Axial play of auxiliary shaft gear cluster.

Insert screwdriver through fluid filler opening and raise auxiliary shaft gear cluster. Read off axial play and note.

If necessary, hold auxiliary shaft gear cluster against turning from above, so that probe does not slide off tooth of auxiliary shaft gear cluster.

Measure height of roller bushing to be installed.

Install two-part Adjustment Tool KM-713 to roller bushing and tighten by hand. Bead of roller bushing (arrow) points to the thumb screw of the tool. Tighten the thumb screw until the end play of the rollers is corrected.

Measure and record dimension "1" from outer edge of Measuring Plate KM-713-1 to outer edge of roller bushing (without bead) in a straight line.

Determine thickness of shims required according to following calculation sample. The axial play should be 0.15 to 0.25 mm.

Shims available: 1.7 mm, 1.8 mm, 2.0 mm, 2.1 mm, 2.2 mm.

Shim thickness to be selected:

 

 

1 shim 2.0 mm and 1 shim 1.8 mm is 3.8 mm, the prescribed axial play of 0.2 mm remains.

Note:   All shim combinations which create an axial play between 0.15 and 0.25 mm are allowed.

  Remove

Remove Measuring Sleeve KM-713-2 from roller bushing to be installed. Front section of transmission housing from transmission nose piece, auxiliary shaft gear cluster is released, avoid dropping.

  Install

Insert selected shims in bore hole in front section of transmission housing. Drive roller bushing (1, bushing used in previous measurement) in flush to front section of transmission housing using suitable pipe (2) or KM-454-4.

Torque

Front section of transmission housing to transmission nose piece (4 screws) – 22 Nm / 16 lbf. ft.

  Measure

Check axial play of auxiliary shaft gear cluster again.

Measuring value: 0.15 to 0.25 mm.
