Operations on Steering, Vehicles with Airbag

Corsa-B, Tigra, Astra-F, Vectra/Cavalier, Calibra, Omega-B
Always note:
For all operations involving the steering in vehicles with airbags, the steering must be locked in the centre position.
The contact unit for the airbag system has a maximum swivel range of 2.5 steering wheel turns to the left and 2.5 steering wheel turns to the right from the centre position.
If the contact is accidentally twisted by one turn, for example after removal of the steering gear, this means that the swivel range is increased in one direction to 3.5 steering wheel turns and decreased in the other direction to 1.5 turns. If the steering is assembled in this condition, the contact unit will be damaged when the steering wheel is turned to full lock in the relevant direction.
Damage occurs in the interior of the contact unit and is not visible from outside. Diagnosis with TECH 1 or the multimeter is likewise not possible. In the long term, this damage leads to interruption of the contact unit, indicated by the airbag telltale.
For the following operations, please make sure that
- the steering is in the centre position,
- the steering is locked and remains in this position,
- the ignition key is removed.

- Flexible Coupling, Replace
