Description of the new VIN

The description below explains the new VIN structure in detail.

Position 1 - 3, the World Manufacturer Code "W0L" remains as in the past. The VDS (Vehicle Indentification Section) changes completely. This component, position 4 - 9 consists of 4 elements:

·     Zero                  (Position 4)

·     Model Code      (Position 5)

·     Series                (Position 6)

·     Body Style        (Position 7 - 9)

Position 4 contains a zero, or in very rare instances a "P".

The Model Code contains: "S" (for Combo, Tigra and Corsa), "T" (for Astra), "J" (for Calibra and Vectra), or "V" (for Omega). Refer Attachment 1.

Attachment 2 shows the valid values of Series. For example, there will always be an "A" for the Calibra, for all Vectras built starting with Model Year 1996 there will be a "B". Another example is the Astra. For an Astra built starting with Model Year 1992 there will be a "F", and from Model Year 1998 a "G"

Note:

Attachment 1 also shows a cross reference between the current Model Code and the body style.

The Vehicle Indentification Section of the VIN does not change - It contains the elements:

·     Model Year              (Position 10)

·     Production Plant       (Position 11)

·     Counter                    (Position 12 - 17)

Model Year is according to ISO 3779 an alpha numeric field. For Model Year 1996 letter "T", 1997 with "V" and 1998 "W". After the letter "Z" the Model Year will be the number "0". The letters "I" "Q" and "U" are not used.

Product plant remains as in the old VIN.

The counter is re-set to "000001" with start of the new Model Year.

Important Note:

The full 17 digit vehicle number MUST be quoted on all communications with Vauxhall Aftersales, i. e. Warranty. PDI Forms and when contacting the CAC or TAC.
