Cooling System, Top Up and Bleed Important! In Aftersales, the "green" coolant 19 40 656 (90 297 545) must be used for vehicles up to MY '01, the "red" coolant 19 40 650 (91 94 431) must be used for vehicles as of MY '01, ensure a concentration of 50%. The two coolants must not be mixed together under any circumstances. The anti-freeze does not only protect the entire cooling system from freezing, it also protects all the components that the coolant has washed over from rusting/calcium formation. For this reason, even in tropical regions, anti-freeze must be used. The water quality also plays an important role in addition to the mix ratio. Water of drinkable quality usually meets these requirements. The quality of purified sea water is inadequate! Damage may also be caused to the engine if unauthorised anti-freeze agent is used. If radiator, cylinder head or cylinder head seal have been replaced the old coolant must not be re-used. In order to ensure that the cooling system is correctly bled, the vehicle heating rotary knob must be set to "Warm". Install, Connect Top up coolant to "KALT" mark on coolant compensation tank.
Install, Connect After closing the cooling system, let engine run warm until thermostat opens (coolant temperature approx. 92 ° C / 194 ° F). Allow engine to cool; if necessary, top up coolant to "KALT" (cold) mark on coolant compensation tank. Notice: Cooling system bleeds automatically during engine warm-up phase.
