Low-Pressure System (Fuel System), Check for
Leaks
Remove
|
Remove engine cover.
On the X 20 DTL: Detach charge-air hose (1) from charge-air pipe
and from upper part of intake manifold and remove.
Detach oil leak line (2) from fuel feed line. Detach front
wiring trough.
|
|
Install
Attach Vacuum Pump MKM-667-A, in conjunction with Hose
MKM-667-10, to the oil leak line.
Inspect
|
Charge oil leak line either with a
pressure of 0.8 bar (vacuum pressure) or 1.0 bar (overpressure). If
a pressure drop is noted, proceed as follows:
- Carry out a visual inspection of all oil leak lines and if
necessary replace the oil leak lines.
- Carry out the pressure test described above on all injection
nozzle traverses. If the pressure drops: Replace seal ring between
injection nozzle and injection nozzle traverse - see operation
"Injection Nozzle Traverse, Remove and Install".
- After completing the repair work, carry out another pressure
test.

Note: Before
assembling components of the intake system (hoses, connections,
etc.), they must be cleaned of any possible contamination (grease,
oil, etc.). When tightening the hose clamps, be sure to observe
exactly the tightening torque of 3.5 Nm / 2.6 lbf. ft.
Caution
It is only ensured that the intake system is free of leaks, thus
ensuring operational safety of the engine, if the hose clamps are
tightened correctly to the prescribed tightening torque.
Install
Attach new oil leak line to fuel feed line connection. Attach
front cable trough.
On the X 20 DTL: Attach charge-air hose to charge-air pipe and
upper part of inlet manifold - tightening torque 3.5 Nm.
Install engine cover on cylinder head cover.
Caution
Always replace oil leak lines following removal. Bleed fuel
system with KM-948 once it has been opened.
