Engine Control Unit, Remove and Install (X 18 XE1)  

Notice: 

The security code must be reset with TECH 2 before removal when replacing or swapping engine control unit - see corresponding Checking Procedures.  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Disconnect ground cable from battery.   Remove engine cover from cylinder head cover.   Release both wiring harness plugs in direction of arrow and detach from engine control unit.   Disconnect wiring harness plug for knock sensor (3) and pull out of wiring harness plug bracket.   Remove ground cable (2) from engine control unit.   Remove fastening bolts (1) and remove engine control unit.

  Install, Connect   

Attach engine control unit to intake manifold- tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.  

Attach ground cable to engine control unit.  

Connect wiring harness plug for knock sensor and connect to wiring harness plug bracket.  

Attach both wiring harness plugs to engine control unit and lock - ensure that plug contacts and plug seating are correct.  

Install engine cover on cylinder head cover.  

Connect ground cable to battery.
