Con-rod Bearing Clearance, Check (Determine Bearing Clearance with Plastigage)
Remove, Disconnect Remove con-rod bearing caps from con-rod. Ensure correct installation position of the con-rod bearing cap - bead (1) on the con-rod bearing cap points to flywheel side.
Measure With Plastigage (Plastigage is available via the "Opel/Vauxhall Workshop Equipment" catalogue).
Important! To prevent the thread from tearing when removing the con-rod bearing cap, remove grease from con-rod journal and lightly coat con-rod bearing shell with clean engine oil. Do not turn crankshaft. |
|
Measure Cut Plastigage to width of bearing and lay axially between con-rod journal and bearing shell (arrow).
Install, Connect Attach con-rod bearing cap to con-rod - note installation position. Tightening torque X 16 SZR: 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft. + 30 ° , 16 LZ2 and 20 NEJ: 35 Nm / 26 lbf. ft. + 45 ° + 15 ° . Notice: The fastening bolts may be used once again to check the con-rod bearing play.
Remove, Disconnect Remove con-rod bearing cover again from con-rod.
Measure Compare width of flattened plastic thread with measuring scale (on plastigage packing). Permissible con-rod bearing play - see "Technical Data". |
|
Important! When reading the value, do not confuse millimetres and inches on the measuring scale.
Clean Clean con-rod journal and con-rod bearing shell and lightly coat with clean engine oil.
Install, Connect Attach con-rod bearing cap to con-rod with new fastening bolts - ensure correct installation position. Bead (1) on con-rod bearing cap points towards flywheel side Tightening torque X 16 SZR: 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft. + 30 ° , 16 LZ2 and 20 NEJ: 35 Nm / 26 lbf. ft. + 45 ° + 15 ° . |
