Engine Control Unit, Remove and Install  

Notice: 

In LHD vehicles, the engine control unit is on the right in the plenum chamber. Illus. F 3922 shows the removal and installation for a RHD vehicle.  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove water deflector - see operation "Water Deflector, Remove and Install" in group "A".   Release cover for engine control unit (1) and place to one side.   Press striker (2) for wiring harness plug of engine control unit in direction of arrow and disconnect wiring harness plug from engine control unit - lay cover with cable bundle aside.   Remove fastening nuts (3) and engine control unit with bracket upwards. Remove engine control unit from bracket.

Notice: 

If engine control unit or program memory are defective, replace the engine control unit completely. Enter specifications (part number and alpha code) of defective engine control unit in sticker on new engine control unit.  

  Install, Connect   

Attach engine control unit to bracket, insert into plenum chamber and bolt on. Attach wiring harness plug to engine control unit and secure with striker - ensure correct plug contacts and correct seating.  

Fasten cover for engine control unit.  

Install water deflector - see operation "Water Deflector, Remove and Install" in group "A".
