Water Pump: Service and Repair

Coolant pump, removing and installing

Special tools and equipment

T10007 Refractometer

^

VAG1306 Drip tray

^

VAG1331 Torque wrench 5 to 50 Nm (3 7 to 37 ft. lbs.), or equivalent

^

VAS 5024 Assembly tool for spring-type clip or VAG1921 Spring clip pliers

Note:  
^

Always replace seals and gaskets.

^

It is not necessary to remove the lower part of the camshaft drive belt guard.

^

The camshaft drive belt should be left in position on the crankshaft sprocket.

^

Cover the camshaft drive belt with a cloth to protect it from coolant before removing the coolant pump.

Removing
-

Drain coolant

-

Remove ribbed belt.

-

Remove tensioning element for ribbed belt.

-

Remove upper and center belt guards.

-

Take camshaft drive belt off coolant pump toothed belt sprocket.
