Oil Pan: Service and Repair

Oil pan, removing and installing

Special tools and equipment

3185 Extension socket wrench, or equivalent

^

3249 Hex ball socket

^

VAG1331 Torque wrench 5 to 50 Nm (3 7 to 37 ft. lbs.), or equivalent

D 176 404 A2 Silicone sealant (not shown)

^

Hand drill with plastic brush (not shown)

^

Flat scraper (not shown)

^

Protective glasses (not shown)

Removing
-

Remove lower insulation tray.

-

Drain engine oil.

Note:  Observe oil disposal regulations!

Remove oil pan bolts using 3185 extension socket wrench. Remove bolts to bell housing using 3249 socket.

Remove oil pan. If necessary, tap lightly with a rubber hammer.

Remove sealant residue on engine block with a flat scraper.
