Check wires between test box and 4-pin connector (to control module) for open circuit according to wiring diagram.

Terminal 3 + socket 51

Terminal 4 + socket 52

Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohms

Vehicles with engine code AVH, AZG, BDC

Check wires between test box and 4-pin connector (to control module) for open circuit according to wiring diagram.

Terminal 3 + socket 68

Terminal 4 + socket 69

-

Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohms

Continuation for all vehicles

Also check wires for short circuit to B+ and Ground (GND). Specified value: Infinite Ohms

If no malfunctions are found in wires:

-

Replace Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220-.

Requirements

Engine Control Module MUST be matched to the Throttle Control Module.

Exhaust system between Three Way Catalyst and cylinder head must be free of leaks

-

Engine Coolant Temperature must be 85 °C minimum See Display group 04, Display field 3.

Functional check

Connect VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool. Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks", See: Computers and Control
