Check wires between test box and 4-pin connector to Engine Control Module (ECM) for open circuit according to wiring diagram. Terminal 2 +
socket 63: Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ohms

Continuation for all vehicles

Also check wires for short circuit to B+ and Ground (GND): Specified value: Infinite Ohms

Check wire between 4-pin connector terminal 1 and Fuel Pump (FP) Relay -J17- for open circuit according to wiring diagram: Wire resistance:
max. 1.5 Ohms

If no malfunctions are found in wires:

-

Replace Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220-.

With Manufacturer Scan Tool

Oxygen Sensor Heating (After Three Way Catalyst), Checking

Special tools, workshop equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required

VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool using VAG 1551/3 Adaptor cable

Fluke 83 multimeter

Requirements

Fuse 43 must be OK

-

Battery Voltage must be 11.5 Volts minimum

-

Fuel pump relay must be OK

-

Engine Coolant Temperature must be 85 °C minimum See Display group 04, Display field 3

Test sequence

-

Connect VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool. Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks" See: Computers and Control
Systems/Testing and Inspection

Start engine and let idle.

-

Press 0 and 1 buttons to select "Engine Electronics" address word 01.
