Engine Control Module: Testing and Inspection
ECM Voltage Supply Open Circuit, Correcting
ECM Voltage Supply Open Circuit, Correcting
If the Voltage supply is interrupted, the Engine Control Module loses all of its' stored "learned and/or Basic setting" values. If this occurs, certain
driveability problems could begin to appear depending on the vehicle mileage.
Special tools, workshop equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required
-
VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool with VAG 1551/3 Adaptor cable
Work sequence
Perform the following operations if an ECM Voltage supply open circuit is detected
-
Switch ON ignition for at least 10 seconds.
-
Switch OFF ignition.
-
Match the Engine Control Module to the Throttle Control Module.
-
Perform idle speed check. See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Engine/Tune-up and Engine Performance Checks/Idle Speed/Testing and Inspection
NOTE: During the Idle speed check ,the EVAP canister purge regulator valve 1 and A/C are switched OFF and the Oxygen sensor adaptive learning
procedure is initiated.
-
Take a test drive of sufficient duration to smooth out any driveability problems.
Observe the appropriate safety precautions during road test. During the road test the following operating conditions must be fulfilled:
-
Engine Coolant Temperature must exceed 80 °C.
-
When specified Engine Coolant Temperature is reached, satisfy the following operating modes several times:
-
Idle (closed Throttle Position)
-
Part Throt (Partially Open Throttle)
-
Full Throt* (Wide Open Throttle)
-
Decel (Deceleration)
*At Full Throt (Wide Open Throttle), engine speed must exceed 3500 RPM.
