Power Steering Gear, Adjusting When Installed

TRW Gear

Power steering gear, adjusting when installed

TRW

Engine switched off
Vehicle raised on hoist
Wheels in straight-ahead position

NOTE:
Adjustment only required when steering play is not correct
Two technicians are required for the adjustment

Adjusting

First technician: 

Turn steering wheel back and forth (about 30° from center position)
Knocking noise which will be heard inside vehicle if there is excessive play

Second Technician: 

Loosen locking nut, counter hold using tool 3315/9 and carefully turn adjusting nut in until knocking noise can no longer be heard from vehicle
interior
Tighten locking nut

Road test vehicle
Steering wheel must self-center without sticking after cornering or maneuvering

ZF Gear

Power steering gear, adjusting when installed

ZF

Adjustment requirements:
Engine switched off
Vehicle raised on hoist
Wheels in straight-ahead position

NOTE:  Two technicians are required for the adjustment
