Acceleration Enrichment Module: Testing and Inspection
Cold Idling Enrichment (Through Vacuum Switch)

This test is only for two wire version electrical connector on thermo-switch.

1.

Connect engine (dwell) tester tool No. VW 1367 or equivalent, (connector 1, blue/white wire) using adapter tool No. VW 1367/5 or equivalent,
then press ``%'' button.

Disconnect thermo-switch electrical connectors and attach jumper wire No. VAG 1594 or equivalent, between terminals on connectors.

3.

Disconnect oxygen sensor, then start engine and allow to idle.

4.

Check duty cycle as follows:

a. With vacuum hose connected to vacuum switch, duty cycle should be 63--67%.
b. With vacuum hose disconnected from vacuum switch, duty cycle should be 48--52%.
c. With electrical connector connected to vacuum switch, duty cycle should be 63--67%.
d. With electrical connector disconnected from vacuum switch, duty cycle should be 48--52%.

If only one specification is obtained, disconnect electrical connector from vacuum switch and check duty cycle at idle as follows:

a. With electrical connector to vacuum switch bridged with a jumper wire, duty cycle should be 63--67%.
b. With electrical connector to vacuum switch not bridged with a jumper wire, duty cycle should be 48--52%.

6.

If both measurements are obtained, vacuum switch or vacuum hose is defective.

7.

If duty cycle values are not obtained, locate and eliminate short or open circuits in wiring to vacuum switch.
