Compressor Clutch: Testing and Inspection
A/C Compressor Clutch Does Not Engage
- Check A/C system fuses S6, 519, 523, and S24.
- Fuses must be OK.
- Check A/C compressor drive belt.
- Must be properly tensioned and in good condition.
- Start engine.
- Switch A/C ON.
- Briefly connect two blue wires on A/C pressure switch using a jumper wire.
If A/C compressor clutch engages, A/C system is low on refrigerant;
- Check system for leaks, evacuate and recharge.
CAUTION: DO NOT keep the A/C compressor clutch engaged for more than a moment or damage to the compressor and/or system will result.
Replace the receiver drier if the A/C system has beer open (exposed to the air) for a long period of time. Operating the A/C with a contaminated system
will cause A/C component damage.
WARNING: Automotive refrigerant containing CFC's is hazardous to the earth's atmosphere. To protect our environment, use an Underwriter's
Laboratory (UL) approved refrigerant recovery/recycling unit such as Kent-Moore ACR3, or equivalent, whenever discharging an A/C system.
