EGR Temperature Sensor: Testing and Inspection
TOOL REQUIREMENTS
Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVOM)
Test Connector kit VW 1594 or Equivalent
Refer to Tools and Equipment for test equipment specifications.
TEST PROCEDURE

Disconnect EGR temperature sensor harness connector.
EGR Temperature Sensor

Remove EGR temperature sensor from the EGR valve.

Switch multimeter to resistance range of 200,000 ohm.

Connect multimeter to terminals of the EGR temperature sensor.

Submerge the sensor in boiling water, i.e. 176° - 212°F (80° - 100°C) the resistance should be:

Between 80,000 and 160,000 ohms

IF NOT replace sensor.

IF YES, re-install sensor, torque to 15 ft.lb. (20 Nm).

Reconnect EGR temperature sensor harness connector.
